Are there Anglo-Catholics today who hold to Michael Ramsey’s view of the episcopacy, which he calls the “Cyprianic view”, which “insists that valid orders depend upon the Church’s life, and that authorization by the whole Church is an integral part of their validity.”
Michael Ramsey, The Gospel and the Catholic Church:
“And a corollary of this view is..while the orders of the Protestant bodies are gravely deficient, the meaning of the historic orders…are obscured by the divisions in..Christendom..the restoration of outward order is needed in order that the full meaning of orders may be seen.”
“No ‘unchurching’, and no denials of the experience of any Christians need accompany the firmest insistence upon Episcopacy, so long as the insistence is made in terms of the universal Church.”
“The truth manifested in Congregational fellowship, in Presbyterian order, in every section of Christendom will be preserved as parts, but only as parts of the whole.”
