In accordance with Canon 42 of the Sixth Ecumenical Council, provision shall be made in every Church which has received permanent consecration for the safe and reverent reservation of the Blessed Sacrament for the sick. In other churches, chapels and oratories, reservation may be made in particular emergencies only, without the license of ecclesiastical Authority. Reservation is by the Species of Bread which has been dipped into the Species of Wine. The vessel or Tabernacle wherein the Sacrament is reserved shall be covered at all times by a white (or gold) cloth which is not transparent; and a white light shall burn nearby. And NOTE: that since Communion with Christ in the Eucharist is the fundamental purpose of the Sacrament, all rites and ceremonies of devotion to It, and all pomp and display concerning It divorced from the actual context of the Liturgy and Communion, are prohibited by Orthodox theology.
