The Catholic understanding of priesthood is the sign and the symbol of Christ the Mediator, and thus, the priest is not himself the mediator, but the sacrament of Christ the Mediator. The Incarnate Logos was made like his brethren in every respect (Heb 2) as opposed to the Jewish understanding of the priesthood as being set apart.
